Name of the Project

Wild Herb Journeys: Foraging, Healing, and Cooking on Mt. Bjelašnica

Summary of the project

Three new herbal workshops were developed with this support, all of which took place at the agricultural household's facilities in the village of Umoljani, located on Mt. Bjelašnica.

Each workshop features guided foraging for wild edible and medicinal herbs, along with insights into their everyday uses in cooking and daily life. As part of the experience, a special menu was crafted, highlighting locally grown farm vegetables and freshly foraged wild herbs for the guests. The workshops are scheduled to run from May through October.

Workshop 1: Herbal Hike
This 2-hour walking tour takes participants from Umoljani into the valley of Studeni Potok, where they will learn about wild edible and medicinal herbs, along with sustainable methods of foraging and preserving natural habitats. The workshop concludes with a special wild herb lunch at the Beslagic facilities, incorporating some of the herbs collected during the hike.

Total duration: 3 hours.

Workshop 2: Herbal Medicine
Held at the Beslagic facility, this educational workshop begins with a lecture introducing essential medicinal herbs, methods for drying and preservation, followed by a tour of the on-site herbal garden. The hands-on portion allows participants to create their own herbal products, such as oils and salves. A wild herb-inspired lunch and refreshments are included.

Total duration: 3 hours.

Workshop 3: Wild Kitchen
This culinary workshop starts with a tour of the garden, where participants will learn about the most common edible herbs. After gathering the herbs needed for the meal, participants will move to the outdoor kitchen to help prepare and cook a meal using freshly picked herbs and vegetables from the garden. The group will then enjoy the delicious dishes they’ve prepared together.

Total duration: 3 hours.
